Today’s board meeting at the Manor Hospital revealed a huge success for the application of new technology in the running of the hospital. We received a joint presentation from MCP and 3M on an innovative file tracking system which the Hospital piloted in May 2008.
Walsall Manor Hospital is the first hospital in the country to use this file tracking system, and possibly the first world-wide and the benefits of it are enormous. The hospital has around 100,000 ‘live’ paper-based files which have to be stored and then retrieved on demand – a huge logistical operation in which human error can cause significant problems.
This system will directly benefit Manor Hospital patients as it speeds up the whole process reducing risk and the possibility of delays in patient treatment. The old system, which the majority of other hospital in the country have, became even more ineffective as waiting times reduced and the hospital treated even more patients.
