Following my post yesterday, I received this response from highways:
Dear Cllr Longhi
Thank you for the email, I am pleased to confirm that Norton Road should be re-opened tonight. South Staffs Water Authority carried out a repair to a water leak last night and it is being re-instated today.
With regard to the collapsed gully, I have made arrangements for it to be plated and coned off today. This will be followed up with a permanent repair asap
I am grateful for this and pleased with the speed of response; again, credit where its due “well done Walsall Highways”.
A few learning points:
In the rush to ‘get the news out’ I noticed that a few contributors were stating that it was Severn Trent’s drain that had collapsed – not so; also, as commented below, the Express & Star describe the hole as 10 ft wide – hmm, draw your own conclusions!

A flurry of emails and tweets today notified me of the closure of the Norton Road at the junction with Lichfield Road. Amongst these I noticed a tweet from the Express & Star:
RT @eands_walsall: 10ft hole has opened up in Norton Road, Pelsall, after a sewer collapsed. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
The alarming part to this photo is not the crumbling edge, but the collapsed brickwork underneath (not so evident, sorry).

Marco Longhi was elected in May 1999 and represents Pelsall ward in Walsall.
Just heard from our colleagues in highways. The repairs have been completed quicker than expected and the road has re-opened (as of 3.30pm Thursday July 14.)
Great thank you. Will post tweet also.
[...] classic example of this is Walsall’s highways department. I have previously posted about the road closure at Norton Road and the shockingly poor/dangerous state of a road gulley [...]
